I have been married to a Sri Lankan for the past 6 years during which time I have waited patiently for my Husband to take the time to teach me his language. Despite returning to Sri Lanka every year and having a child together born here in the UK, I am still no further forward (and it looks like neither will be our son) and the time has come to take matters into my own hands!
I am an absolute beginner and will therefore need lots of support. I am keen to develop my skills so that I can converse in Sinhala but I am shy why learning new languages as I hate being wrong! Not having people around me speaking in the language is a challenge as practicing the spoken word will be crucial to my development. Unfortunately there are few Sri Lankan's living in the north of England who offer tutoring in their native language and so I have to look at other options.
I am a teacher myself and understand the level of commitment this will take from me. In terms of what I am looking for in a teacher, it is someone who is patient and aware of my shyness but who will push me forward with my learning.
