I speak a little amharic now, I am yearning to become fluent in the language as my wife and son are Ethiopian and I would very much like to make the effort she has made to learn english. I'm also sad that I can't have a conversation with her parents. I'm really not able to travel far from home, so I'm looking for contacts or just advice. Thanks

My wife and I plan to adopt two Ethiopian children within 9-12 months (early 2007). We would like to learn Amharic to enrich our bond with the children and their original culture. We have both learned other foreign languages (spanish, french, german).
W e would prefer to join a small group class but could pay for private lessons if necessary. Weekly or bi-weekly classes preferred.
We are seeking a class or teacher in the Berkeley-Oakl and-San Francisco area.

I have had no exposure to Amharic. I am definitely a beginner.
I would like to spend several hours per week learning Amharic - possibly three/four days of the week for an hour or two each time.
I would like for my teacher to have lived in Ethiopia and be a native speaker of Amharic.
