I spent a summer in Russia and took 2 semesters of Russian. I can still read (slowly) in Russian and remember many words, but am not able to put them in coherent sentences because I have forgotten how to conjugate and decline according to number, tense, and case. I would love to be able to speak Russian conversationa lly and native or near-native speed--which I know is a very tough proposition. This is only for my personal edification. I am not sure how much time I can devote on a regular basis for this summer, but starting in mid-August 2009, I would be able to devote a few evenings a week and study on my own. In a teacher, clear performance goals are helpful to me. I would prefer someone with experience teaching people to speak Russian, since I do not know what constitutes an 'effective teaching style'--which I believe can only be learned by experience.

I plan to move to Russia next Fall and plan to later enter into a university program focusing on Russian language and literature.
I studied Russian in New York for about 6 months in 2000 and visited the country briefly in 2002, but much of what I learned of the language has been forgotten. I can read the cyrillic alphabet, but my vocabulary and grammar would be at the beginner's level.
I would like to study from December of this year (2009) to at least August of next year (2010), and I'd like to start with 2-hour lessons twice/week, possibly increasing lessons to 3 times/week.
Would need a teacher who is reliable and committed enough to plan lessons according to my needs. Also would need help in acquiring appropriate materials for study: textbooks and so forth.
