I am trying to find a way to learn Russian due to my work environment. About 40% of the people I come in contact with speak Russian and I completely understand the language barrier. It not only is it difficult on my end but I know they struggle as well. I will be a beginner with no background in the language at all. I am willing to spend two to three hours a week to learn the language. I really am looking to be able to speak the language well enough for them to understand me so work can go smoother. I am learning Russian for two main reasons.
1 . Career prospects: I am looking at the possibility of working in the former Soviet Union in the oil and gas industry.
2. Personal life: My wife is Ukrainian and although she speaks English fluently, her parents have no English at all.
I would say I am at beginner level. I have some training grant money remaining from my employer and I wish to use it on this subject. I am looking for a short course to begin with and looking toward extending this if work constraints allow.
