Description |
I am an English teacher and I want to learn Japanese and French. I am very much a beginner in both languages.
Japanese:
I have taught myself hiragana and katakana, and I have started learning a few kanji. I don't know much vocabulary and I only know a little about the structure of Japanese.
My goal is to be proficient in Japanese and develop fluency gradually. I want to learn for enjoyment, because I am interested in Japanese language and culture. I have given thought to teaching English in Japan in the future. So I want to learn to speak in a proper and professional way as well as in a casual way.
I would like to spend maybe two hours per week with a tutor, and I would also like 'homework,' or to work independently for several more hours per week. I currently own two volumes of kanji cards (through 4th grade, I believe), hiragana and katakana cards, and a book of Japanese verbs. I just need some explanation of how to put all these things together.
I am looking for a tutor who is a native speaker, and who can offer me insight into Japanese culture as well as language. I would like to meet at a library, or coffee shop, or somewhere in public until I get to know my teacher.
French:
I want to learn French for more practical reasons. One day I will be moving to Canada, and in order to score more points (literally) as an immigrant, I want to demonstrate an understanding of French. I have been doing French Rosetta Stone, and I am still on level 1. I can say things like 'The fish swims,' and 'the boy is not driving the car.' :) Not very advanced! But I really like trying French. The accent is hard but very fun. I think French is a beautiful language. Also I recently found out that my family lineage is French, so I would like to learn for that reason too. I went to France once, but all I said successfully in French was 'excuse me' to get off the metro. :) I loved French culture and food, and even though everyone spoke English I would at least like to try French when I go back someday.
My ideal French teacher would be a native or fluent speaker with a lot of patience. I am very confused with French vowels, and I need to be taught how to pronounce them properly. 'E' says 'uh' and things like that. Very basic. I don't mind being corrected when I'm wrong. I would also like French 'homework' or maybe for my teacher to correct my work in workbooks.
I look forward to learning Japanese and French. Thank you for reading my lengthy profile!
