I would like to learn chinese for personnal interest. I have taken a one year mandarin course 20 years ago at Ottawa University, but I have forgotten what I have learned. I would like to focus on conversation but also using a textbook so that I may learn pinyin and maybe some caracters also.
I would like to dedicate one to three hours a week on learning, but it may be more depending on how things are progressing.

My father was half Ukrainian, half Polish, my mother is French-Canadi an, hence the native language. I have always wanted to learn, for my personal development and hopefully travelling to Ukraine and Poland one day and finally 10 years ago i started private lessons with a person with whom i had been put in contact with through the Ukrainian Credit Union in Ottawa. Unfortunately , at one point he was too busy with his job and he had to put a stop to our lessons. Since then, i have taken several group courses, and i am presently taking courses, but i do not see any progress because we do very little conversation, either with the teacher or amongst ourselves. As far as my proficiency is concerned, i feel i am more than a beginner, i can read, no problem, in fact up until last Christmas, i was singing in a Ukrainian choir here in Ottawa, although i did not get all of what i was singing. I am quite familiar with the grammar and the verbs, although i have problems with the cases, don't we all!! I need improvement in conversation, there is no better way to improve but to speak the language. I remember those private lessons, the teacher used the flash card system and it was very effective, i still remember what i learned from those lessons despite all those years. I am presently taking private lesson in Spanish and it is going very well, being able to speak it in every lesson. If possible, i would be able to dedicate one hour a week per lesson, plus the time at home for assignments. As for the qualities i am looking for in a teacher, well of course patience with an aspiring learner would be great, plus also dedication.

I want to improve my Portuguese because my girl-friend is from Sao-Paulo. I went there 4 times, so I had basic vocabulary, but I want to improve. I am in Canada and I'm moving to Brasil at the end of next fall. I can talk little bit, but without according my verb and simple sentences... as my first language is french... it give me some advantages to understand and read...Conver sation is one of my focus, but grammar as well as I plan to work there as a professionnal on agriculture. Maybe 3 hours a week could be good !! I'm looking for dynamic courses, I want to have fun as well !! Interactive.. visual.

I'm learning japanese by myself for maybe 2 years, it's my hobby. I love learning japanese but I need to have a teacher because I want to be able to properly read manga and I don't know enough kanji yet and grammar. I can be classified as advanced beginner. I want to go teach English in Japan one day. I want to practice my japanese at least 2 to 3 times a week.
