Description |
I have recently returned to Australia from Syria and Lebanon. I studied Arabic (beginner level)at Damascus University for 4 months and studied with a tutor for 3 months.
I reached an intermediate level in classical/mod ern standard Arabic, although my conversationa l Arabic was weak. Unfortunately I have not been able to find any time to study since my return to Australia, but I am now extremely keen to recommence studying Arabic.
I want to learn Arabic for several reasons - future travel/work in the Middle East and possibly working with refugees and immigrants within Australia. I also want to be able to read arabic poetry, texts and the Koran.
I would like to improve my conversation and also reading aloud/pronoun ciation and writing. I would also like to improve my knowledge of grammar. Ideally I want to be able to read Arabic newspapers, novels and literature and to be able to understand spoken Arabic, both conversationa l and classical (as usd in the media and classical text).
Ini tially I would like to spend 2 sessions per week (2-3 hours per session)with a tutor, either on the weekend or evenings. Depending on the cost of the lessons and progress being made, this may increase. I am happy to study with other students in a small class environment.
I would like a teacher/tutor with a very good knowlwdge of Arabic grammar and someone who can provide exercises that will improve my practical skills in reading, writing and conversation.
