| Description |
I am very much a beginner with this language. I had one semester at a Community College, but the instructor spent more time talking about his travels than learning the language.
I am interested in learning this language for two reasons: 1. I am 100% German and would like to learn the language so that I may travel there.
2. Language proficiency is a requirement to complete my PhD. and I would like to work with German so that I can read some of the text in the original language.

Mandarin: I studied Mandarin in Xi´An for one year, then shortly after lived in Shanghai and worked for a Chinese firm. My Mandarin was very proficient at the time however I have lived in Mexico City for the past three years and have lost some of my proficiency. I would like to improve my vocabulary and fluency, expressing myself mostly so I would be interested 50% of the time in conversation skills (expressing myself); 25% of the time reading characters; 25% in grammar. I have software to write in Chinese on the computer; the concise English-Chine se Chinese-Engli sh dictionary (can look up characters) and have the Go2China software. I am looking for two classes per week each 1 1/2 hour, looking for a teacher who is not a perfectionist .
German - I worked for a German company, Siemens, for three years and have many German friends to practice with. Will go to graduate school for two years and in between plan on going to Germany during summers to learn German. I have some basic german, looking to improve conversation skills and learn the basic grammar. Looking for two classes per week, each 1 1/2 hour, looking for a teacher who is not a perfectionist .

Hello. For Japanese, I am a beginner. I just know the basics of the language as in sentence structure, and certain rules to verbs and adjectives. Other than that, I doubt I would be able to hold a solid conversation in Japanese. I am learning this language because I have always been interested in the Japanese culture, and have been planning on joining an exchange program to Japan sometime in college, so I would at least like to be fluent before that time comes. I need improvement in everything basically. Japanese isn't hard to me, but it is challenging to remember all the forms of speech they have. I always fear that I might say something wrong and offend a native speaker.
For Spanish, I am not sure what I should classify myself as. I have been taking Spanish classes for 2 and a half years now, but I am no where near fluent. My conversationa l skills are pretty choppy, seeing that my memory leaves me quickly, so yet again, I will remember the concept and not the words. If I had a better memory for words I'm pretty sure I'd be fluent in LOTS of languages by now. >_< I want to become fluent in Spanish because I am persuing a career in the Medical field, and 50% of the population comes from Spanish speaking backgrounds, and there has been countless times I've seen that they don't know English. It is true because there was a day a doctor was ready to give a Spanish patient three shots because that patient didn't understand or speak English. I don't want to work and not know how to communicate with my clients.
F or German, I don't know anything about it. I have never taken a single lesson on German what-so-ever, but from what I've seen, German seems fairly easy too learn. I know a lot of people who are fluent in German, and it only took them a year or 2 to become fluent. My interest in German isn't like Japanese and Spanish. I just feel that it would be nice to learn a fourth Language. Who knows, If I can handle these three (English makes Four) Then I might even tackle French as well. =]
For a teacher, I want a person who will be professional with me, but still fun. I don't like teachers who can't laugh or at least make their lessons a little bit interesting. I love it when a teacher can add silly relations to the lesson to help with memorization and pronounciatio n. If they are an effect teacher and can help me with my learning, then they are perfect.
I am willing to put as much time as I can into my lessons. I have school from 7 AM to 1:15 PM(Eastern Standarn, US) on weekdays and after homework and such, I can be on from about 4(5) to 9 PM (EST). On weekends, I can be on much more frequently, and I am always willing to learn more. I will also be studying on the side with the books I have to further my knowledge.

| Description |
I would like to learn German because my mom grew up in Germany and speaks the language fluently. Unfortunately , she didn't speak it at home so I never picked up the language when I was young. I know very little and would like to become fluent in order to speak to my mom and family. I can dedicate 2-3 hours per week and I'm interested in private lessons or small groups in the evenings. I only know a few phrases and words so I am definetely at the beginner level.
I'm looking for a tutor that is available in the evenings near the south loop/downtown area of Chicago.
