I am planning to travel to Brazil in January 2012 for one year. I will be volunteering there. I will have classes available once I arrive there but having already done one exchange like this I think I would like to learn some of the language first. I would like to learn as much as possible. I have so far learned basic things such as some numbers, articles, conjugating regular and irregular verbs. I would like to start learning the language more conversationa lly as I think learning the grammar only gets me so far... I can dedicate a few hours one or two days a week to my lessons, but of course I know I will be practicing even while I'm not in class. I am looking for an open and communicative teacher, someone who makes the lessons interesting.

I am 22 years old of Italian descent, yet I can barely speak a word of my own language. I realize it is a little late to start now, but I really want to learn how to speak Italian so I can surprise my grandmothers and be able to have a conversation with them in their own native language. I am able to commit to one day a week (preferebly a weekend) for as long as needed. I need a patient teacher who can make learning Italian fun. I have taken French courses in high school which have given me the basics. I'm looking to learn more grammar for spoken French, I know words, but can't put them together properly to form a sentence.
My boyfriend is from Quebec and his family speaks minimal to no English, so I would like to be able to communicate more with them as well as him, so I can practice more. I have been to Quebec once and found if very difficult, I thought knowing words would be okay but it was much more difficult than I thought.
I would like weekly sessions of 2 hours, I'm not sure how many weeks, I believe that's where I would look for some feedback from the instructor.
