My proficiency level is beginner. I would like to learn to Arabic for career advancement as well as to prepare me for the Army. I plan on going into the Army for four years and hopefully into the CIA afterwards. I believe that the more I know will allow me to advance in all aspects of my future career. I am willing to dedicate 30 hours to learning Arabic. I am extremely interested in becoming fluent or at least conversationa l in the language. Some qualitites I'm looking for in a teacher are flexiblity (working with my difficulties with things such as pronunciation ) and patience.

I studied Mandarin Chinese at U.W. from 1987-89, and learned grammar, reading, writing, pronunciation , and some conversation. Then I worked in China for two years teaching English, and my Chinese proficiency improved. My jobs were in universities in Shenyang and Chengdu. Many years passed before I was able to return. In 2002-03 I again taught English in China, this time in a primary school in Jinan. Much of my Chinese speaking ability came back, but my reading and writing abilities are now very limited.
It is my hope to return for a year of English teaching in China every few years. September 2005 is my next target date. Also I may have occasions to visit China on private business from time to time. I am a 56 year-old woman, and my ability to memorize has diminished, so it seems best for me to focus mainly on Chinese conversation practice. My speaking ability (pronunciatio n, grammar, and vocabulary) is better than my listening comprehension . For each lesson, I would like to have a conversation topic, spend some of the time discussing that, and the rest of the time learning sentence grammar and building my vocabulary. Each lesson should also have some review of previous lessons.
My schedule is very full, so it is only possible to plan 2 hours of lessons per week. This will be enough for me to continue active use of the language and improve gradually. I am seeking a teacher/tutor who is a native of Mainland China, preferably from the Northeast region. This person should have experience in teaching, skill assessment, and planning a course of language study for a student. The teacher does not need to be highly fluent in English. I live in West Seattle, and am willing to use my home for lessons or to travel to the teacher's home or another meeting place. I can pay $15-20/hour, depending on the teacher's experience.

My name is Michael and I am very interested in Learning Russian. I am at the beginning learning level and I would like to progress to the point where I could have conversations with russian speakers at ease. I would like to meet with my teacher in person twice a week for one hour at a time, mabey two depending on the cost.
