I am thinking of traveling to China sometime in 2006 and would like to learn the language to some degree before this trip. Above and beyond that I think it would be a good idea to learn this language due to China's growth and expected growth.
I do not know which, (Mandarin, Cantonese, etc) would be better to start with.

Hello,
My name is Angela and I am very interested in learning the Taiwanese language. I am a beginner and would like to become proficient in conversationa l Taiwanese. My fiance is Taiwanese and I would like to learn the language so I can understand the conversation between him and his family. I also think his family would except me more if I knew the language. I am willing to dedicate however much time and effort on my part to reach my goals. I am somewhat of a slow learner, so I need someone who is patient and willing to allow me to go at my own pace if possible. I would really appreciate it if anyone would be willing to help me.
