I am seeking lessons in the Hindi language. I am an absolute beginner and have no past expereience with the language. I am planning on volunteeing in India sometime in the next year or two and would like to have some knowledge of the language before I go.
I am able to meet once per week with an instructor/tu tor in the Portland area.

I can speak hindi quite well but I have forgotten how to read and write. I think I could pick it up with not much difficulty because I used to know it. I want to know hindi well because I am Indian. I need some work on my grammar too. I would like to dedicate an hour or two a week with my instructor and have few hours of hw to do on the side.

I have been studying Hindi on my own for about seven years. I can read and write Devanagari and have a fair knowledge of grammar, but I am very reticent to speak and practice what I have learned. My comprehension is also slow.
I spend about half of the year in North India and would like to develop speaking/list ening proficiency as soon as possible. I am looking for a teacher that has experience working with students who are shy or get stuck when asked to speak, someone who will be proactive and creative in helping me get through that block rather than fill the space or time with writing or talking themselves.
I am looking for someone who has a creative approach and who is willing to challenge his/her students to progress. If I find the right teacher I am willing to dedicate the time that is necessary to substantially improve my skills in the next three months.
