I am a beginner wanting to learn Cantonese. I'm learning Chinese for my own interest. I want to fluent eventually. looking for lessons after my work day (after 6pm) one day off during the week, saturday after 4, sundays free. need a teacher who is fluent in english. I also want to learn how to read and write in Chinese. I have very little experience with common words spoken and writen. I'm a fast learner and need to move quickly and be challanged.

Proficiency: Intermediate. I read through about 70% of 'Chik Hon Man: Everyday Cantonese' a few years ago. I still remember basic grammar, tones and basic expressions. Planning to work through Pimsleur Cantonese Course by July'05.
P urpose/Goal: To be able to follow and carry a conversation with Cantonese speakers in social situations. I'm planning to visit my partner's family and friends in Hong Kong in October 2005.
Need improvement in: conversation, fluency, vocabulary.
Time constraints: Starting in July'05, 3 hours a week until end of September'05.
Desired teacher's qualities: Proficiency in Cantonese grammar and language teaching methods. Substantial language-teac hing experience. Flexibility in adapting teaching methods to suit the student's style. Patience, pleasant style, good command of English and ability to explain grammar concepts. Understanding of challenges that English speakers encounter when learning Cantonese. Professionali sm, punctuality.

I would say I am intermediate because Cantonese is my first language. Growing up in Toronto i quickly developed the English language and used it everyday as my first language. I want to become more fluent in Cantonese especially with my conversation. I would like to dedicate 2-3 days a week on lessons. I look for sense of humour, good teaching style and patience from a teacher.
