Description |
One of my life goals is to be able to speak 2 other languages at the near-fluient level. I have a long ways to go, but have recently begun to pick up the drive again.
Ger man - I have 1 year of highschool German under my belt, just enough to be frustated and craving to learn more. The only reason I want to learn more is to have a broader vocabulary and capability to carry out basic conversations . #4
Japanes e - I have a very limited vocabulary, all one or two word phrases. I love the Japenese culture and find their language to be equally appealing. #1 in my prefered languages to learn.
Man darin - 0 knowledge and vocabulary, but the language is highly appealing to my tastes. #3 in my prefered languages to learn.
Any language I learn will be fully for self-fufillme nt of a life goal. With all of the languages my main goal is to be able to carry on a conversation over a broad area of general topics and a couple specific topics. As such, grammar and conversation is key. I am willing to dedicate my weekends to study, as well as a few weeknights as well. My current employer is the US Navy, so there will be times of extended absence as well as a potental 6 month deployment in the future. All of my classes will have to be held in the eavning on weekdays and anytime is available on the weekends. Scheduling will have to be worked out specifically to tailor to a sailors hectic lifestyle...
Qualities of my teacher? I am not looking for a professor with a doctorate in their respective language, however, I do expect my teacher to be able to answer any question I have to ask (even if a little research is involved) and to have a fluient grasp on most aspects the subject at hand. A rigid silibus is not necissary nor is a detailed and complete list of activities. All I desire is a teacher with a small flair of excitement and the ability to present thier knowledge in an interesting way.
Reaso nable rates only please! Sailors don't get paid in gold, unfournately.

Description |
I have had some German, so I am familiar with the language and wish to expand my vocabulary and working knowledge.
I am a complete beginner in Italian. I am a very fast learner, however, and very excited to begin learning this languages.
I would like some grammar in both languages (as I think this helps understand the language better), but I would like to focus on conversation. I am learning these languages simply because it's something I want to do, and I enjoy visiting both countries and would like to speak the native languages.
I can probably dedicate 3-6 hours a week.

Description |
My family consists of six native speakers of English. We are looking for a language tutor interested in teaching our family somewhere in Europe during the summer of 2007, with lessons lasting several hours each day for about 4 weeks. In terms of location, we prefer not to be in or near a very large city (Berlin, Paris, and comparable cities would be too large) but we are otherwise flexible. We prefer an area in which we can use the languages that we will be learning, especially Switzerland, France, Germany, Austria, or Italy.
My name is Roger, and I am a math teacher with several years each studying French and German decades ago and moderate travel throughout Europe until about ten years ago.
My wife, Marsha, is a reading teacher with no significant language education.
Our four children range in age from 15 down to 9 years, and all four learn rapidly when given the opportunity.
My oldest son, Grant (age 15 by summer) is studying his third year of French and would like to learn more in almost any language, especially French, German, Latin, Spanish, or Italian.
My daughter, Anna (age 14 this summer) is studying her second year of Spanish and has similar language interests to those of her older brother.
Our younger children, Marshall (age 10) and Clark (age 9), have had no formal language education but are interested in learning a new language.
Our interest in languages is for general education and to broaden our knowledge, not for business or professional reasons. We are interested in a balanced education with proper grammar, an emphasis on correct pronunciation , and conversation, to the extent that we can make a start toward those goals in one summer. Our top choice languages are French, German, Spanish, and Italian, although we have no strong preference among those four. We would like to learn one of the four languages intensively and if possible without confusion receive a smaller exposure to a second language.
We are moderately flexible on dates and hours of study, and even on the language to be learned. I would expect to start lessons some time after June 25, 2007 and end before August 15, 2007. We are open to discussion on whether the lessons would work best with the entire family at once or with two groups of three, as well as on how many hours per day would be productive for the older children and for the younger ones. In terms of living arrangements during our visit, we would expect to find several rooms or an apartment to rent either near our teacher's home town or in a location that the tutor would also like to visit for several weeks.
The most important quality that we hope to find in a tutor is the ability to adjust to the varying needs of the students. Our older children learn rapidly, and the planned lessons are likely to require frequent adjustments and flexibility.
