I am a beginner, though I do have some learning experience - a long time ago. I would like to learn French to satisfy academic requirements for literature programs I am considering applying to, as well for my own personal growth. I can dedicate 20+ hours per week to my studies. I enjoy French films, food and music. I have just completed my undergraduate studies in the University of Guelph (Ontario, Canada), in Classical Languages and Studies, and am looking to continue on to Graduate studies in the UK. The reason I am planning to learn Italian and German is because it is required for students looking to further their Classical degree to be able to read in those two languages due to the large amount of research papers/materi als in them.
I have no experience in either languages, however I am familiar with both Latin and Ancient Greek which I am sure will help me in the learning process. Since my most pressing concern is to be able to read and understand written material i would be more interested in the grammatical side of the language, however, it would not be remiss to be able to communicate conversationa lly. The length and frequency of the lessons will depend on the situation, but my hope is that there will be communication at least once a week.
Fina lly, I have no particular type of teacher/lesso ns I a preferable to, however I would prefer if the teacher is easy to approach and willing to compromise to the somewhat irregular schedule that I have.
