I am a beginner in chinese, mandarin. I have just moved to taiwan to teach english language and I would like to learn conversationa l chinese so that i can communicate more easily with my taiwanese friends and also to enable an easier lifestyle here in taipei. I want a reasonably intensive course as I would like to be able to speak as soon as possible, but I teach every afternoon and the weekends i am very busy. I wish my teacher to be serious about teaching but patient as I need to learn tones.I do not wish to speak a lot of english in the lesson.

I have studied 3 1/2 years of Mandarin Chinese, including 2 months in Beijing with Princeton in Beijing.I studied 1 1/2 years of Japanese and have studied a little Korean on my own. I am particularly interested in studying Chinese. I live in Keelung, and most teachers seem to be in Taipei. Because of this, I think I would have to do a lot of online learning, unless I could find a reasonable priced tutor who could come to Keelung. I would like maybe an hour or so per week in person, with maybe an additional 1-2 hours online or by phone. Right now I would just like to be able to communicate and live comfortably in Taiwan, but I am thinking of a career in translation.
