To Whom it May Concern;
I am extremely interested in learning the Polish language. My grandfather was Polish, and my husband is also Polish. I would love to be able to participate in family conversations more.
I have taken one beginner night course, and have only a slight comprehension of what is to follow. I have a lot of opportunities to practice speaking, however, I am shy at times because my vocabulary is so limited. I seem to be more motivated to learn in a classroom setting so I can build my knowledge base prior to speaking with others.
I am currently on maternity leave and could spare 1-2 nights per week for a 1-2 hour lesson. I would then do my best to spend 1/2 to 1 hour in the evenings to practice what I've learned.
A group setting would be acceptable for me, or private lessons, depending on the cost.

Description |
I'm looking to learn Polish because my Dad immigrated from Poland when he was a kid, so my roots are in Poland, and I can't even speak the language! My Dad's been losing his Polish since his father passed away and he has less and less people to talk to in Polish. I think it would make him so happy to be able to talk to his daughter in his native tongue! So, at this point, I'm most interested in conversationa l; however, I love English grammar, so I'll most likely want to learn the mechanics of Polish once I start learning the language. My Dad has tried to teach me little tidbits in the past, but I really know pretty much nothing at this point (aside from a few random words). I find it to be the best learning environment when I'm in a small class (as opposed to a large class or private instruction). I can't do something as difficult as this online, so I would definitely need to attend live classes. I'm a graduate student right now, which means I wouldn't be able to attend daily classes or anything, but I think once or twice a week would be a good place for me to start. I have no real specification s for what I'm looking for in a teacher, aside from a lot of patience! I doubt I'll pick this up very quickly and I'll need to go over things several times before I start remembering.

I am a physician. Increasingly I am drawing upon a Polish-Americ an patient population. To better help these good people, I would like to learn to speak Polish.
I know a few words of Polish (taught to me by my patients), but I am uncertain of my pronunciation and grammar. I would like to speak polite and correct Polish. I am very much a beginner.
Because of limits on my time, I think that I would need to have private lessons. During part of the year, usually over the winter months, my work requires that I travel throughout New England. During those months I could not attend frequent lessons, but, during the remainder of the year, I could meet with someone perhaps twice a week. I would appreciate advice on how best to go forward. Should I have small group lessons, frequent private lessons, private lessons mixed with internet or group learning?
I am not a young man and perhaps I do not have the quick and retentive mind that I had as a youth. My progress may be slow. However, once I begin this study, I expect that I will continue for for the long term - probably for years - to gain proficiency.
Thank you for your anticipated help in this!
