I am learning Japanese because the language interests me and I wish to live in or visit Japan a lot in the future. I would consider myself a beginner though I know all hiragana, most katakana and general sentence structure. I basically need improvement in all aspects of the Japanese language; grammar, writing, reading, vocabulary etc. Since I am in high school I don't have much time during the weeks but I can edit my schedule and make time for lessons during the week if needed. I am looking for a teacher who can teach well and efficiently, knows the language really, really well (I'd prefer a native speaker) and that they can help me with anything and answer all my questions concerning topics about the language.

I'm currently attending the University of Alberta, majoring in East Asian Studies and minoring in Japanese (faculty of the arts). I just started basic Japanese this year with very little previous experience.
My goal in the future is to be able to start a career abroad in Japan. Although realistically I want to have a professional career in Japan, a teenage aspiration of mine is to start a band and connect with the local music scene.
I don't seem to have trouble memorizing different Japanese words and characters, including kanji. However, sentence structure (especially the use of particles) always gives me trouble!
I 'd like to spend at least an hour a week with a language coach trying to perfect this language, it's difficult but really fun and I look forward to studying it more and more.

I am learning Japanese because I would like to be able to work in Japan. This October I will be applying to the JET Program and if I am accepted would like to be prepared ahead of time.
Curr ently I am around a strong beginner/weak intermediate level. I have been studying Japanese on-and-off on my own for about 6 years.
I have a lot of work to do before I will reach my Japanese skill goals, but my biggest concern at present is more complex grammar such as if-then statements. As well, I'd like to learn about when to, and not to, use familiar/form al language.
I would like to use 1 to 3 hours per week with a teacher to learn, and use homework and extra material to practice some more on my own.
I would like my lessons and teacher to be engaging and informative. I'm a quick learner so a teacher that is able to keep my interest through and prepare enough material for the entire lesson would be ideal.
