I am a complete beginner and do not know ANY Khmer.
I intend on doing research work in Cambodia late next year and subsequently, for my PhD. So I would like to start taking lessons, in order to acquire at least a beginners' level proficiency before I go.
I'd like to spend at least 2-4 hours for language lessons per week.
Qual ities: a teacher proficient in English and Khmer. Excellent grammar/vocab ulary and teaching skills
Prefe rably with appropriate accreditation
Able to clearly explain rules/languag e idiosyncrasie s in English so that I can learn better.

I am a beginner.
As I will be posted to Cambodia to work in about 6-9 months time, I would like to be able to converse with Cambodians on a daily basis during the course of my work there. I would like to take this period of time to learn the language before I actually go there, even though I may be travelling there periodically in the mean time. My whole family will re-locate with me in due time.
I am willing to dedicate about 2-3 times per week, but I am open to the teacher's suggestion whether it is too much or too little time as my target is to learn it within 6 months.
Ba sic requirement of the teacher is first and foremost able to teach me to speak and understand and converse Khmer verbally (that is, normal daily Khmer conversation) .
Second part will be to read and write the written language.
I am 44 yrs old , my wife 39. We may want to learn it together, but that is yet to be decided.

I want to learn Khmer so that I can converse with the locals there when I go on trips. I want to help the needy Cambodians. I am also thinking of doing documentary videos of life in Cambodia.
