I would like to learn Hungarian. My parents immigrated to Philadelphia from Hungary. When I was a child, I knew Hungarian, but as I began school and especially after my parents' divorce, they ceased to speak Hungarian to us. They wanted us to do well in school and my father had an American girlfriend, who he didn't want to offend by speaking a foreign language in front of her. Since then, I have not spoken Hungarian. I know how to count to 39 (only because I don't know how to say 40, 50, etc.)and I know how to say 'yes' - igen and 'no' - nem. That is it.
Last year my father passed away. Although my sister and I tried to convince him to find his family in Hungary, he had no desire. So, this past weekend, my sister called me and told me that my father's nephew (our cousin) contacted her on facebook. I didn't have a facebook account, but I created one right away and he contacted me as well. He doesn't speak English, so he must use a translation software to translate what we write to him and to translate what he writes to us previous to sending it.
After opening the facebook account, I have also been contacted by my mother's Hungarian friends. She is currently in Hungary. My point is that now I have so many reasons to learn Hungarian. I'd like to visit my father's family someday and be able to communicate with them.
My only setback is that I need to be able to learn in the evenings or weekends, since I work during the week. Please contact me, I'm really excited to learn Hungarian.

My name is Derren and I have studied Hungarian and German off and on for a number of years. A couple of years ago I studied Hungarian for a few months via online chat and that worked really well for me. I'd like to study 2 or 3 times a week at 7AM Eastern Daylight Time for the next few months.
My Hungarian level is probably a little better than Beginner, and my German is probably approaching Intermediate. I would like to find a tutor who could work with me on both, but one tutor for each would be fine as well.
Voca bulary is a strength, but grammar is a weakness for me.

I am half Hungarian but have never been taught how to speak Hungarian. I would really enjoy learning it since I'm greatly interested and so that I am able to communicate with some of my family better. I'm at a beginner level and only know a couple of Hungarian words. I'm also willing to dedicate a lot of time and effort to finally learn the language. I'm looking for an understanding and friendly teacher that knows the language well!

I am learning the language because I will be going over there to teach English next summer and would like to be able to communicate outside of the classroom. Right now, my proficiency level is very beginner, I have taken some lessons and been to the country 8 times. I would really like to work on conversationa l Hungarian. I would like to dedicate one to two nights a week and I am looking for a teacher who can teach me the conversationa l Hungarian so that I can be able to handle being there, with very limited English speakers and not feel as though I am alone.
