Hello,
I recently picked up an introduction to the language and have been studying the Arabic alphabet.
I think my main problems (so far...it has been only a couple of days) are: confusion as to the sounds of some of the emphasized letters, the accent and rhythm of speaking, and my book's lack of exercises.
I want to learn it mainly for reading/viewi ng Arabic news, traditional poetry (if that is possible), and hopefully, conversation (I want to visit the Middle East).
I am probably below your teaching level, but if you gave me an idea of what you teach, I could learn the basics with my book and come back to you.

I have studied French at the university level for 3 years. 4 years ago I spent a semester in France and was confidently conversationa l by the time I left, but have not had the opportunity to practice for the past year and a half. I have taken 1 year of Egyptian Arabic, but my primary focus at this time is to gain fluency in French, particularly on the topics of politics, economics, and law (the subjects I study at the university) through grammar study and conversation practice. I would like to begin classes at the beginning of February and conclude them at the end of April, perhaps 8 hours a week depending on cost.

I am a foreign news editor from Romania, have been doing this for 6 years. The reason I want to learn Arabic is very simple. Actually, there are more. First of all, there is my job's nature. I am trying to stay close to Arabian culture and community in order to teach others good things in those domaines. On the other hand, Romania media lacks of Arabic speaking journalists and nobody could convince me that there are no interesting news, comments or other kind of press articles in this region.
Well , as you might figure it out my proficiency level is somewhere beyond beginner. And I am expecting that my teacher should be serious, hard-working and communicative .
