Konnichiwa!
I have already started learning Japanese thru self-study. I bought myself a CD and A Guide to Conversationa l Japanese book and several other small books with commonly-used phrases. I sometimes try to use what I learn in conversing with my officemates. But I only use the basic expressions. I am a big fan of anime (Japanese-dub bed with English subtitle) so I would be familiarized with how Japanese people speak. I sometimes watch Japanese channels as well.
I would like to go a step higher with my knowledge in the language -- have a strong grasp of their grammar, how they speak and I would like to learn writing in Katakana and Hiragana. I have always wanted to go to Japan and would really wish to know the language and culture more before going there.
I am currently working full-time as a programmer, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. I could only alot an hour after work, on alternating nights.
It would be greatly appreciated if my future teacher's native language is Japanese, but speaks English fluently. It would be also fun if he/she has a passion for teaching, passion for the Japanese culture and language.

I took 12 units of Japanese from the University of Asia and the Pacific but found myself still very unable to converse. As a requirement in school, maybe my prime motivation at that time was to finish the course and not actually to take it seriously.
Today, as I see the need to learn the language (Japanese), especially in conducting business, I would llike to further take up courses for mastery.
