Just a quick description - I am looking to learn mandarin - which I currently have only learnt to a very very basic level from friends and a trip to China in 2006. I want to learn to eventually become proficient to a conversationa l level, and initially, understanding characters is not so important as listening and speaking. I am a medical student and can currently commit a couple of hours every week to learning, although I hope to commit much longer once I transfer to a less intensive attachment!!

I am a french student and I am actually in Nottingham for my studies in fashion management (one year). I work for a chinese businesswoman as an artistic adviser for her next society. The concept wich we are developing together will be based in Beijing next year. I am looking for ground in mandarin and an introduction to the chinese culture (different than the one I can have with the businesswoman ). I am a beginner and wishing to take lessons due to enrolling on a conservation project in Xi'an next summer. I am looking to gain an understanding of the language so that I can survive and pick up on more whilst I am out there. My grammatical knowledge is not that good and something I would be keen on developing. I would be looking to take one lesson in an evening a week, starting in Januray.
