Greetings!
I am an English speaking business consultant with a degree in Communication s.
My desire is to learn conversationa l Cantonese as I married just a few years ago and my wife is originally from Hong Kong.
She also speaks excellent English in addition to Cantonese and I wish to be able to hold proper conversations in Cantonese with her parents, immediate family and close friends.
We frequent Chinese businesses and visit Hong Kong from Canada regularly and it would be a valuable asset for me to speak conversationa lly in Cantonese.
I know a few phrases but would be at beginner level as I cannot speak in sentences.
I would be able to have lessons approx 2 to 3 times a week.

The main reason why I am interested in learning Cantonese would be career advancement. As an aspiring police officer in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA)I have noticed there is a large and constantly growing number of people who speak either Cantonese and/or Mandarin. Language barriers often make it difficult to communicate, and there is a growing demand for multilingual officers especially in such a diverse community.
M y proficiency level is only beginner but I am excited and determined to learn.
In terms of time I want to say as much as necessary, however I am a working full time student. So for starters I would like to begin at approximately 5 hours a week and adjust accordingly based on how well I am developing.
What I am looking for is someone who is enthusiastic, passionate, and shares my love of learning. However I am not saying I want this to be easy nor do I think it will be, but I am excited nonetheless and want someone who will push me to help achieve my goals

I want to learn Cantonese to better connect with my family.
I would say I'm a little better than a beginner. I can listen to some casual conversations about certain topics, but my vocabulary and grasp of grammar concepts is tenuous at best.
I want to improve by learning vocabulary and improving upon my sentence structures.
I want to dedicate perhaps an hour a week to language lessons. If the teacher recommends more I will consider this.
I want my teacher to be knowledgeable , and capable of helping me improve my ability to speak the language (get the pronunciation correct!).
