Hi there,
I am looking for a Tamil teacher to help me increase my proficiency in the spoken language and to learn how to read and write in Tamil (I cannot read or write at all). I wish to learn to get more in touch with my roots and for my career as well (primarily in the legal and business fields). I am wanting to learn the language Tamil, the reason I want to learn the language Tamil because well I have always wanted to learn Tamil but both of my parents were Canadian so they never knew how to speak Tamil so I never got to learn but with this website I can finally learn the language Tamil. I am a beginner as you can see, I think I need improvement in probably EVERYTHING conversation, grammar and anything else I would dedicate 1 or 2 hours to learning Tamil. The qualities I look for in my lessons and in my teacher is a complicated but not to complicated and that will help me learn Tamil. What I look for in my teacher is a teacher that will be helpful and nice but not to nice and that will understanding in the mistakes I make during a lesson.

I am not really sure how much time is needed per week in order to effectively learn this language but I'm willing to commit between 10-20 hrs per week. Seeking to learn how to speak fluent Punjabi, have a good understanding (parent speak at home), however I am looking to build my confidence in speaking as currently I can speak but I struggle with building sentences and often mix Hindi and Punjabi (went to Hindi school in highschool so i can read and speak a little bit). I would like to dedicate 1.5 hours each week to my language lessons.
I'm seeking a teacher that is able to meet face-to-face in Toronto (I live in the High Park area)or is tech savvy and can organize video conferences and is able to teach me how to speak (not interested in learning to write or read). Ideally would be good if the teacher also knew Hindi so that I could eventually learn that as well down the road. I'm ok to either start learning Hindi and then Punjabi or vice versa.
