I want to learn Russian to be able to talk with my girlfriend in Russia.
Pr imary goal is that I learn reading, writing and speaking Russian, including:
- pronunciation (only by the classic phonics method, not by the modern whole word method, it is a must).
- grammar (love to learn the rules in a methodical hierarchical way)
- vocabulary (especially for some of the context of specific subject areas that interest me)
- conversation (including Russian formalities, so also 'the packaging' not just 'content')
- writing skills
Sec ondary goal is to also learn a bit more about Russia itself, including its culture, food and history.
T he lessons may be either in Dutch or in English, since I'm fluent in both, having lived in the USA.
My background is that of a professional linguist (doing translations in 5 languages), I'm fluent also in German, Spanish and French, since I grew up partially the South America and lived/worked in other countries too. Additionally I studied Latin and Greek for 5 resp. 4 years, teh Greek having me learn to read the Cyrillic alphabet, although my pronunciation needs improvement. It was just a start, soi I really will be starting fro scratch.
M y goal is to have 4 to 5 lessons per week, since I'm in a hurry to be able get rid of the clunky Skype translator and I also want to be able to understand and produce jokes and expressions when talking with my girlfriend live or on the phone.
The type of teacher I look for really needs to understand the phonics method and have experience in teaching adults. She or he needs to provide two references from past students and be ready to immerse me soonest in Russian so that I do not get used to translating Russian via Dutch or English, but that I establish a context sufficiently viable to 'think' in Russian without intermediary language.
