The reason why I am learning Chinese is because I have taken Mandarin and Cantonese courses in the past, plus I have lived in Hong Kong for six years. I would really like to keep up with learning both dialects.
I need improvement in grammar and conversation. I would to dedicate at least an hour and a half for learning.
I am looking for a teacher who is patient and creative, that will challenge me and give me some homework. I would also like the teacher to help me a bit with my writing. I can write and read some Chinese.

I have married a wonderful man whose family speaks Cantonese. Unfortunately , I do not speak any Cantonese, and while his family does speak English, I would like to be able to communicate better with them. My long-term goal is to be able to understand what is said, and participate in family conversations . Also, I would like any children we have to be fluent in both English and Cantonese and by learning the language myself; I will be able to participate in that.
I believe that learning the language will go beyond just being able to participate in conversations , it will be a sign of respect to my new extended family.
I am not sure how long this endeavor will take, but I am dedicated to sticking with it as long as it takes. My preferred teacher would be fluent in English and Cantonese, and be patient with an older student.
