I have several people working for me based in Shanghai and Taipei. I am interested in leaning Chinese (Mandarin) so I can have more meaningful conversations with them. My goal is to be able to conduct a staff meeting in almost exclusively Chinese Mandarin (a SUPER goal would be to do a presentation in local language).
When it comes to Chinese (Mandarin), my proficiency level is beginner. However I already speak another phonetic language and I studies French for more than four years (not fluent and really hope to learn 'thinking' in Chinese (Mandarin) versus 'translating in my head' from English to Chinese and back. I would like my learning to focus on conversation and advance to writing (pinyin or kanji). I am willing to commit 3hrs per week to in-person teaching plus homework and other practice as assigned. I am looking for a teacher who can train me in conversationa l Chinese (Mandarin) by teaching me to think in Chinese (va translating into English). I have travel to china in Late November and it would be terrific to 'wow' my team win some genuine conversation beyond 'nihao', 'Xie Xie', and 'bukeqi'.

I was born in China but moved here when I was 7. I only took first grade there but I was still able to continue a conversation. But now that I have no one to talk to in Chinese, other than my mom, my Chinese has really dropped. I can still understand very well but my speaking, writing, and reading skills have went down.
I just want to have the ablity to speak so when I go back, I can talk with my family. My reading skills have gone down but I can still looks at familiar characters and have an idea what it means. My writing skills is horrible but I can still sound out the pinying to type and as I said earlier, I can still recognize common characters.
I am looking for a teacher that will work with my pace and my knowledge. I am a quick learner but there are times I have to slow down to fully understand. And I would like a teacher who challenges me a little without completly throwing me out in the open. I also want a teacher who is fun and can make learning as fun as possible but still pack the lesson in. In person would be the best for me but you're working on just my speaking skills, video chat would also be fine.
