Beginner +. I know the Arabic alphabet and can read Arabic, though very slowly at this time. I have learned many words and can form some sentences, mostly having to do with introductions , directions, common questions, etc. I used Pimsleur's to learn to speak Egyptian Arabic first and began working with the Al Kitaab series to learn the alphabet and word structure. People I have spoken with in Egypt tell me I seem to have the sounds of the Arabic alphabet correct and should not have any problems expanding my knowledge of the language.
I am learning Arabic to be able to communicate well with people in Egypt when I go there twice a year. I give speeches and work with orphanages so it would be nice to be able to communicate directly instead of needing a translator.
I can spend about an hour each day working on the language lessons. I need the accountabilit y of a class I physically attend to stay on track. With online courses it is too easy to put it aside and forget about it.
I would like a teacher who enjoys the language as well as teaching. I prefer a class structure that does most of the leg work outside of the class so class time is mostly spent practicing verbally and answering questions I may have about the lessons.

I am a beginner who is considering a move to Alexandria within the next year. I am in desperate need to learn basic Egyptian Arabic so that I will not be totally lost when I am there.
I have visited Alexandria twice within the past year. I just returned home last week.
I want to learn basic conversationa l Egyptian and am willing to spend a few hours a week.
