Description |
Hello, I am looking for someone to help me learn tagalog. I will be visiting the Philippines in October and I would like to be able to understand and speak some conversationa l tagalog. I believe that my main area of need would be understanding the grammar. Having only studied French as a foreign language before. I would be very open to any ideas about how much time to dedicate to my studies. Whether they be with a teacher or following recommended studies myself. I am in a position to spend up to two hours a day in this pursuit. I would hope that the teacher would be up to date on the current phrases that are used. And that the teacher would have a genial personality.

Description |
Good Day. My name is Loyd. I am trying to find a school where I can meet interesting Filipinos and learn Tagalog and everything possible about Philippine culture, history, art, literature and geography because I would like to establish residence there and I feel that I should know such things as the native language.
I am a 60-year-old male who has retired and wish to live in Manila, or it's environs. I would also like to attend school in Manila perhaps 2-4 days per week. Of course, the language of Tagalog is my priority. I must confess that I am an absolute 'beginner' in Tagalog, although I visited Luzon and Mindanao in May and June 2008. I am willing to dedicate 2-3 hours per day in class and study at home 1-2 hours per day x 2-4 days per week in the language alone. I need help in all aspects of Tagalog because of my 'Western' education: to include alphabet; pronunciation ; syllable-stru ctures and emphasis (stress); word-order; grammar; writing and conversation.
I am hoping to attend classes in a school there, but if I must, I will seek a tutor if I can afford to pay the fees. I hope to find a teacher who can lead me to conversationa l-level Tagalog within 6 months. I will probably require patience as the sounds seem 'alien' to my untrained sense of language at first, but I will need 'some' prodding to move on without attaining perfection. I will need someone expert in English who can explain to me about Tagalog.
S incerely,
L oyd
I anticipate arriving in late July or early August 2009. Thank you very kindly!
