Description |
I'm relatively profient in both Spanish and French. I lived in France for three years and had a Spanish mother-in-law for ten years. My 3-year old daughter is half Spanish and goes to Spanish preschool, but has announced she wants to learn French. I'd like to brush up on grammar and practice conversation and have her both listening and participating with me. Probably looking for one hour a week for each language. mondays and Tuesdays are best. Prefer a teacher with a good sense of humor.

Description |
I am an English teacher and I want to learn Japanese and French. I am very much a beginner in both languages.
Japanese:
I have taught myself hiragana and katakana, and I have started learning a few kanji. I don't know much vocabulary and I only know a little about the structure of Japanese.
My goal is to be proficient in Japanese and develop fluency gradually. I want to learn for enjoyment, because I am interested in Japanese language and culture. I have given thought to teaching English in Japan in the future. So I want to learn to speak in a proper and professional way as well as in a casual way.
I would like to spend maybe two hours per week with a tutor, and I would also like 'homework,' or to work independently for several more hours per week. I currently own two volumes of kanji cards (through 4th grade, I believe), hiragana and katakana cards, and a book of Japanese verbs. I just need some explanation of how to put all these things together.
I am looking for a tutor who is a native speaker, and who can offer me insight into Japanese culture as well as language. I would like to meet at a library, or coffee shop, or somewhere in public until I get to know my teacher.
French:
I want to learn French for more practical reasons. One day I will be moving to Canada, and in order to score more points (literally) as an immigrant, I want to demonstrate an understanding of French. I have been doing French Rosetta Stone, and I am still on level 1. I can say things like 'The fish swims,' and 'the boy is not driving the car.' :) Not very advanced! But I really like trying French. The accent is hard but very fun. I think French is a beautiful language. Also I recently found out that my family lineage is French, so I would like to learn for that reason too. I went to France once, but all I said successfully in French was 'excuse me' to get off the metro. :) I loved French culture and food, and even though everyone spoke English I would at least like to try French when I go back someday.
My ideal French teacher would be a native or fluent speaker with a lot of patience. I am very confused with French vowels, and I need to be taught how to pronounce them properly. 'E' says 'uh' and things like that. Very basic. I don't mind being corrected when I'm wrong. I would also like French 'homework' or maybe for my teacher to correct my work in workbooks.
I look forward to learning Japanese and French. Thank you for reading my lengthy profile!

I'm trying to learn french because I am taking it in high school. I am in French Level 3 but I don't know what I'm doing in class at all. I've been slacking off a lot and now I'm clueless as to what I'm doing in class. I don't understand what the teacher says at all. I need help in basically everything.

Hello or Should I Say Bonjour,
I n High School I Took French 1 and 2. I learned a lot from it but yet so little at the same time. Readin g the language from what i remember and have been taught i do really well, but when it comes to listening and grammar parts i do not so well.
I need someone who is patient with me and makes me feel comfortable. I feel the reason i didn't do so well in high school is my teacher made me and the other students feel dumb if we didn't get it right away and didn't take the time to let us actually LEARN.
I want to become proficient in many languages, because i think it is something everyone should do and i would like to travel around the world.
