Description |
I have just begun my foray into the Japanese language, so I suppose I would be a bare novice. I have always been interested in eastern cultures, Japanese in particular. My family has traveled extensively in the US, Mexico and Canada, were I was born. As a result I have caught the travel itch. I have always wanted to go beyond this continent and am planning to do some overseas traveling in the future and will be making japan one of my main stops.
Des pite what I have learned about culture clashes in my encounters, communication always seems to be the biggest obsticle. I would like to overcome that hurdle. To communicate one must understand the culture barrier and overcome it. Language is only one aspect of that barrier, so I am seeking for someone to teach me not only the language, but the culture as well.
I do speak fluent low German and spotty high German, as well as have a small grasp of Spanish. To that effect I belive learning another language, although difficult, is something I am able to do. I have a bit of an idea as to how most languages function on a whole, its grasping the fine details of each individual one that I am working on. For now, I am focusing in on Japanese because I have always wanted to learn it and I believe, it being one of the more difficult languages, that learning it will enhance my ability to learn other languages.
Not yet having a grasp on conversationa l Japanese and definately not yet on writing, I am forced to begin at the very basics. I do know some of the grammatical rules, as well as some of the conversationa l traditions or 'rules of thumb' so to speak. I am looking to acquire some learning materials as well in the future, books, cds, etc. to enhance whatever tutoring I might recieve. Some advice as to what I might get would be most welcome.
A s it stands right now, time wise, I am working full time as well as considering going to school, so my time is rather short. I also tend to find myself up at odd hours as my work schedule is spotty at best. I would prefer a friendship level acquantance right now, rather then a full time teacher. Perhaps someone I could email or chat with online, and maybe even have a phone conversation or two with. Mostly I am looking to make contact with a native speaker in order to have someone that can give a helping hand.
I really am not picky as to the type of person who might reply. I am an easy going type, I get along with anyone. However, a good sense of humor is a must. Other then that, all are welcome.
