I have been to Romania six times, but never long enough to pick up a lot of language skills. Although I do speak and understand a little, that is all, only a little. My desire to be fluent. Conversationa l Romanian is my problem. I can have very limited conversations because I am not too skilled with conjugation of verbs and the use of adjectives. I will dedicate as much time as it takes to be able to be fluent. I need a patient teacher whom will listen and be flexible and encouraging!

My name is Thomas Sybilrud,
I am currently a citizen of the US, but am thinking of moving back to Iasi. I lived there for 10 months last year (2007) with my girlfriend. She grew up in Iasi and then came to the US for high school as an exchange student and continued to go to University here in the states, where we met.
Upon living in Iasi, I did not take formal courses for the language, thus not learning as much as I could have. I figure I could understand about 40 - 50% when I was living there, yet I can probably only speack 10 - 20%. I have a decent vocabulary (which makes it easier for me to understand than speak) but I have trouble putting the words together. We left Romania at the end of November 2007.
My girlfriend and I have been renovating an apartment building in the Gara district of Iasi and will be continuing our real estate development. I am trying to decide if it is a good idea for me to go back to Iasi. I am very serious about learning the language.
Currently I would like to be able to speak and understand the language (I understand people in Bucharest a lot better than the people of the Moldovian region) I have been told it is a hard dialect to learn.
Reading and writting is not a huge issue right now, but eventually it would be nice to learn. But for now I would just like to learn how to speak and understand.
I have taken some classes for Spanish (about 10 years ago) so I get a little bit of how the grammer should be since they are similar languages. But I still have trouble.
I f I am going to come back to Romania it will be around mid-July 2008.

at present i only speak english but i am sick of being one of those stupid american monolingual types.
i would like to find someone who just likes to have fun teaching
i supose it would take an hour or two a week
i ride my bike all year round and dont drive so you would need to be in the general mpls area.
i cant afford much but i if you are willing to work with me ill see what i can scrounge up, and ill buy the coffee.
