I am a beginner at Thai though I have some basic knowledge because I have previously spent two years in Thailand. I require proficiency for a job I will start in Thailand in the fall. I can dedicate as much time as is available in order to reach the highest level possible before my departure. I'm planning on going to Thailand for a week this September to help out at an orphanage. I would like to learn how to speak some Thai before I go so I can communicate with the children there. I would probably have 3 hours a week to dedicate to learning the language, possibly more. I just want to learn how to speak it, I'm currently not interested in writing or reading it.
