    Teaching Approach

The preschool/juv enile Chinese class is specially designed for kids aged 5 to 18 based on rich experience in teaching Chinese school in Miami. The kid will not only learn to communicate in daily life Chinese fluently in just one to two years, but also get to master many of wonderful hands-on skills mostly specific to oriental people, such as juggling, five-in-a-row , origami (ball, bird, telephone, frog, airplane, table, hat, chair, etc.), Chinese dancing, Taiji, Qigong, self defense skills, age guessing through zodiac animal notification, hand guessing for drinking fun, magic tricks, whistling, finger cracking, calligraphy, Chinese chess, computerized Chinese typing and entry, computer power user skills, computerized picture drawing and editing, body language for numbering, singing Chinese songs with guitar. etc.

The adult Chinese class will be taught based on years of experience in teaching college Chinese. Students will not only be able to open mouth and communicate with Chinese people for daily life in less than a year but also be exposed to the 5000 year splendid Chinese culture (over 30 topics) and detailed comparisons with the western culture, which proves very helpful especially when the student goes to China or deal with Chinese people for business, college attending, marriage, research, or sight-seeing.

The SAT/HSK/AP Chinese Exam Preporation Programs will focus on real exam simulation and hands-on exercises. Students will not only learn how to get high scores in those tests, but also will systematicall y master the Chinese skills in comprehension , speech, reading, writing, and typing.

Ch inese learning is a long term effort, which needs determination , persistence, commitment, effective tools, and right direction/ins truction. I will make use of Internet-base d high technologies like audio-video multimedia to facilitate the efficiency in learning Chinese. I have created over 10 CDs to cover entry level Chinese I, II, III, and intermediate level Chinese, which prove to be a very useful tool in learning Chinese efficiently and quickly.

I expect the students and I will co-find a more feasible way toward more successful Chinese learning and tutoring.

    Program Description

    Welcome to Tonny's Chinese program!!!
If the 19th century belonged to Britain, and the 20th century to the United States, then the 21st century will surely belong to China. Unfortunately , the predict has become an undeniable reality.

C hinese is becoming the second most useful language in the world today. It is also the most spoken language in the world. It is the common language for Greater China (China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and Singapore) with 1/4 of the world's population! It is one of the 5 official languages of the United Nations, and one of the 7 languages that the Dept of State has determined to be critical to the national security of USA.

Learn ing Chinese will also help create a tremendous advantage over your native competitors in the tough education field.

I am Professor Tao "Tonny" Liu, living in Miami, Florida. I have three master's degrees and over 10 years of university teaching experience. I had been teaching credited and non-credited Chinese courses in Miami Dade College and a Chinese school in Miami for many years and I have been tutoring several tens of students from 4 to 75 years old. Up to the March 2014, 31 of my students won the first, second or other places in Florida State-Wide Chinese Competition or Florida International Chinese Speech Contest, including two first places and two third places in the 2014 Florida International Chinese Speech Contest.

M y Chinese programs include kids program, adult program, and SAT/HSK/AP Chinese Exam preparation programs.

One of my students learned Chinese from me for 3 months and got one million dollars of the credit line from a large company in China due to the very fact that he could communicate with them in Chinese. And then many of other companies there offered the same credit line to him. Another student learned Chinese from me and found a job in Delta Airlines flying to China. Still another student of mine won a full college scholarship of $46,000 each year because of her Chinese ability. My students include kids, teenagers, architects, programmers, professors, attorneys, doctors, and business owners. One student of mine is doing very good business in China just because she knows Chinese. One of my students learned Chinese from me only two weeks, went to China, found a date, and married her. Several of my students went to China and found an English teaching job.

My approach in passing Chinese knowledge proves very useful in their thrilling experience in China.

Wha t makes me a unique and special Chinese teacher include but not limited to:

    - Prizes received by over 30 of my students (including 8 kids of 5-8 years) in Florida International Chinese Speech Contest and Florida State-Wide Chinese Competition. - Over 100 handouts in Chinese learning and cultural exposure
    - Passion as a former college credit Mandarin teacher in helping people learn Chinese quickly
    - Over 10 years of Chinese-teach ing/tutoring experiences
    - Prestigious in 6 years of organizing the 800-member Chinese Language Corner, which is the only live Chinese corner in USA
    - Maintaining a dedicated Mandarin learning website
    - Graduated from a top-ranked Normal University in China where Education, Psychology, and Pedagogy are major courses
    - Knowledge of spoken Cantonese
    - Knowledge of Chinese histories, geography, philosophy, idioms, funny jokes and success theory and stories

If the above said really impresses you and you are really a serious Chinese language learner, PLEASE CONTACT ME and allow me to service you in learning Chinese efficiently and effectively. There may not be any vacancy available for me to tutor you Chinese now that so many students are learning Chinese from me. Opportunity only befalls a mindful learner!

    Frequently Asked Questions

Question And Answer About Tonny's Chinese Programs.

    Q: Where are you living?
A: I am living east of US 1 in the Village of Palmetto Bay area in Miami.

Q: What time are you available to teach Chinese?
A: I am available only some of weekday evenings and sometime during weekends.

Q: I am less than 18. May I contact you?
A: Sure. And the law requires you let your parents know that you are contacting me.

Q: How many characters or words are needed to master Chinese?
A: The Chinese level for a non-Chinese speaker is determined usually by how many characters have been mastered. Although there are roughly 13,000 characters in an authentic Chinese dictionary, Xinhua Dictionary (modified version 2002) which includes both simplified and complex forms of characters, only less than 4,000 simplified ones are usually used (i.e., seen in daily Chinese publications, such as newspaper, magazines, and modern novels), which is less than 1/3 of the characters collected in this popular dictionary. And contemporary Chinese people who are of college or higher education normally have a command just to those characters. (I hold a master degree in Liberal Arts in China, have 8 years of teaching experience in college and could recite 100 poems from Tang Dynasty, but I only recognize around 3850 simplified characters in the dictionary). Ordinary Chinese only know less than 3000 characters. For non-Chinese speakers, Entry Level One Chinese needs 100 characters. Entry Level Two needs 300, Three 500, which is similar to the level of the third grade of elementary school students in China. Intermediate level Chinese needs 1000; Middle level needs 2000; Advanced level needs 3000 characters or more.

Q: Do you also teach Chinese culture?
A: Good question. The approaching Chinese billow attracts westerners in two aspects - Chinese language and Chinese culture. Actually, I do give a talk on many Chinese cultural phenomena, including, but not limited to (1) job opportunity, (2) Chinese language features, (3) greeting ritual, (4) name convention, (5) geography, (6) historical resorts, (7) cities, (8) dating, (9) marriage, (10) friendship, (11) history, (12) Chinese games, (13) prostitution , (14) democracy, (15) Dialects, (16) Taiwan problem, (17) kid education, (18) real estate, (19) living expense, (20) cuisine, (21) eating habit, (22) traffic (23) beauty comparison, (24) climate, (25) longevity, (26) calligraphy, (27) education systems, and (28) salary. Other topics could be death penalty, bargain, Tai Chi, family loyalty, one child one family policy, Chine painting, songs, daughter/moth er-in-law relationship, military comparison, minorities, law systems, Kong Fu, Qigong, lady boy, etc.

Q: How did people comment on your Chinese teaching? Is there any bad comment?
A: So far I have not found any negative comment yet, though some of my students have left my Chinese program due to the fact that they already mastered Chinese and graduated from my Chinese program. I sincerely welcome comments, especially criticism and suggestions so I could improve my Chinese service. I would like to share some of the positive comments here for your judgment. All of those comments came unsolicited as part of emails to me or as anonymous evaluations on my Chinese class.

As the last statement, I would like to share with you Mr. Christopher Reeve, the movie Superman's main actor's saying here to enlighten both you and myself:

"S o many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable."
I believe Chinese mandarin is one of your desired dreams and you could make it come true through summoning your/your kids' strong will to master it.

Thank you very much for being considering me as your or your kids' Chinese teacher to learn the most spoken language in the world.

    God bless you!
