Although grammar and language structure is fundamentally important, emphasis is place on using the language for communication , even if one butchers it initially. Vocabulary building will be founded on practical words that are practical in daily life and common settings, rather the knowing words for knowledge sake, spelling bee like. Since it is a student-cente red learning, students will be active contributors to the structure and content of the learning process, including providing realistic contexts of language use relative to their final goals.

Program Description

Using the syllabus as a guiding light, students will be master the basics of grammar prior to vocabulary building and applications. The class will be divided into two groups which will be engaged in exchange of information via communication , while acting as a mediator. Practical context will form the basis for language application, such as traveling, mailing letters, ordering services that are part of daily routine.

Teaching Experience

Born in Tanzania, the epicenter of Swahili language and culture, I will use my four years of teaching intermediate Swahili at Rutgers University's African Department to assist students to reach their goals.

Teacher Training
|

|
1. High school Certificate in Tanzania, with knowledge of written and spoken Swahili being a condition to graduate.
2. Worked for Antiquities Department between 1981 and 1985 to preserve Swahili language and architecture
3. Teaching Intermediate Swahili at Rutgers University between 1998 and 2002.
