Teaching Approach
Our teaching method takes full account of modern didactics and is oriented toward the "Foreign Language Concept of the Council of Europe", observing all instructions that the Real Academia de la Lengua recommends. We use the Direct Method and at school, like during free time, spoken language is emphasized from the first day on. At all levels, only Spanish will be spoken.
Du ring free time we promote integration between students and Dominican people, organizing culture activities every nights where a number of trained Dominican friends are invited.

Frequently Asked Questions
q1-I may want to stay 8 to 12 weeks, but I don't want to commit to that up front. If I pay for 4 weeks, can I then decide at the end of the.last week that I would like to pay for another two weeks or another four weeks and just extend my stay in the school and the hotel? a1- You can enroll for a period and then decide to extend your stay as long as you want. Just note that the longer the period you enroll for, the less you pay, because after the 5th week there is a special price. If you extend week by week, you end up paying the normal price, which is more expensive than enrolling for a 5-week period or longer. Another thing is that your room may not be available at the end of your first period, requiring a move.
q2- Teaching Schedule a2- monday to friday, 8:30 to 12:30 for standard course - monday to friday, 8:30 to 12:30 and 13:30 to 15:30 for intensive course - custom schedule for personal lessons
q3 - Payment policies a3- 20 % at enrollment 80% the second day.
q4- After class is over, are group excursions considered mandatory or can we do whatever we want with our free time? a4- Of course you can do what you want with your free time. We only suggest activities. q5- Are the residents of Santo Domingo friendly and inclusive, or wary of people they do not know, as in New York City (where I live)? a5- Dominican people enjoy their life very much and they really love to meet new people. You only need to be smiling, open minded and friendly to be immediately accepted by Dominicans. q6- What is the average age of the students who attend? Do you get more ladies or gentlemen? a 6- Our school is like a little family. We have an average of 8-10 students, usually about 50/50 males and females. Their average age is between 25 and 35, but students over 40 are very common.
q7 - How big is the Hispaniola School (total # of students)? How old is it? How many teachers are there? Is it in a house or an office building? a7 - Our school is a little family. We have an average of 8-10 students at any given time. Last year we had a total of 147 students for an average stay of 4-6 weeks. The school was founded in 1995. We have up to 12 teachers available, but only 4-5 are actually working at most times. Our classrooms are in a colonial mansion that has been converted into a modern building.
