I use the communicative approach when teaching Swahili language. In communicative approach, I involve learners in real communication . They learn the language in a natural setting and this allows them to use the language and grasp the grammar aspect without having to memorize the rules.
For instance, I can ask learner to find out personal information about the friends or family members. This kind of assignment involves meaningful communication because learners use actual information in their learning. The approach I focus on more learner-cente red approach and use authentic materials when teaching. |

I am doing the class using the Video Conferencing thru skype or zoom.us. I will send them the meeting ID day before of our class so he/she can join in my class. zoom.us has capability to share my notes while I am tutoring my student. Then Ill give sometime my student to ask questions or if there will be confusion during our discussion. I have already prepared tagalog lessons. Whatever the lessons we will have I will send it to them to their email address for their reviews and encouraging to practice them everyday. |

My approach is based on the student's level of proficiency, interests and aptitude to get involved an talking. I always start with the very basics. Phonetics of the POrtuguese language is my very first lesson. From there, I move on to greetings and other minor topics of conversartion s. I do an exposition of Grammar every other week. Vocabulary, reading and speaking are always key elements to every class. Even if I am explaining grammar, I try to encourage the student to participate by making up sentences or repeting after me. My approach is very simple but yet very effective. |
