They say Rome was not built in a day. This holds true with language as well as other things in life. Language is not learned overnight with the use of a textbook and a few tapes. One must have daily exposure and a willingness to examine the nitty-gritty detail of spoken as well as written language. This only comes through practice and participation where one is forced into using the language in a consistent manner, to overcome uncertainty as well as miscommunicat ions and God for bid misunderstand ings. The program that I uses is very basic and very simple. It is solving old problems with their ideas. I've taken the idea of using interactive English software known as Dragon NaturallySpea king which is a speech to text software. This allows my students the ability to see their own success by having an AI convert their language skills into text on the computer screen. for the foreigner students, the most important thing is to catch their attention first, chinese is difficult language to learn for foreigners. for kids i will ask them to play games and act in drama to make sure they can keep attention always. for adults, usually i will give them the interesting conversitions first. to master a foreign language, cannot just teach grammar, they need to learn how to speak, from my experience, i think reject grammar is better than just teach from text book. |

While I teach them the necessary grammar, my students are automatically increasing their listening skills - and my students MUST talk. If they don't ask me questions, I will ask them very many questions about themselves. I know whether my students understand or not, because I KEEP ON testing them and asking them! If my student's English is not correct, then I tell him/ her at once. If my student's Emglish is clear and understandabl e, then I say "GOOD! GOOD!"
