I am a native German, living in Colorado for the past two years. Besides English, I also have degrees in Latin and French. If you are interested we can combine learning German with learning more about the German culture, traditions and life-style. After an introductury lesson which will help me understand your needs and expectations I will put together a personalized course program for you. In order to achieve long-lasting results, it is important to me to teach the structure of the language while still making it a pleasant experience. |

Lessons focus on both grammar and conversation and are conducted primarily in the target language so as to encourage speaking and aid in the understanding of the language. There will also be plenty of focus on reading and listening. |

Teaching approach: |
I feel that a teaching approach has to be based more on how the student learns and understands language rather than on how I think one should learn. Therefore, I make it my first priority to find out what level the student is on and how he or she understands the foreign and his or her first language. Through trying many teaching approaches in the beginning, I hope to be able to find the one which suits the student most appropriately . However, I also think it is important to explain the relationship between the 1st and 2nd language and how they relate and differ from one another. |

I like to incorporate different media and tools, such as cartoons, films, sound recordings, music, etc. in my lessons, depending on the age level and the type of skill to be learned. My approach is very hands-on. I encourage my students to speak as much as possible through games and dialogues. Language learning must be enjoyable, otherwise it becomes drudgery! |

I use a lot of humor when I teach. If students can learn to laugh in a foreign language, they will never love that language. And if they don't love it at some level, they will always see diminishing gains in their studies. I also sometimes like to bring in current news stories as a warm-up activity. This allows students to see an immediate, "real world" use for the language they are learning.
I have a real knack for making analogies and explaining complex ideas in simple terms. This makes lessons more entertaining and less threatening. Also, since I have a broad cultural and intellectual background, I am able to integrate interesting perspectives and anecdotes from literature, history, science, etc., which appeal to students from many backgrounds.
I have found that music is one of the best teaching tools across cultures, so I often like to play songs, asking students either to go over the lyrics part by part with me, or simply to express how the song makes them feel. This alway... |
