I firmly believe that language should be learned through conversation, watching movies, listening to music, reading literature in original vs. translated version, learning about the culture and tradition. Also, for upper-level students, through comparing and contrasting the language and the culture to other languages and cultures the student is familiar with (best results when we compare ith mother tongue of the student). |

What I first do is a little introduction to keep know each other, then I usually let my student do a level test and see where we should focus our teaching on.
I usually talk only in Italian, and repet everything in the language of the student to make him/her more confortable with the sound of the language. I usually follow my student even after the lesson, for any doubt, they can text me and I usually answer them as soon as possible.
After 5-6 lessons my students take a test to let me know if there are some problems in the learning process.
E verything is supported by books and on-line stuff.

Emphasis on spoken language: I equally address five domains of language acquisition with my students - listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar. The ultimate goal is to be confident in speaking without relying heavily on the written text.
Respect silent period: I explain to my students that they are not expected to start speaking immediately but instead should develop listening comprehension to be able to produce sounds correctly.
