I am a beginning learner of Japanese who has been doing self-studies for a couple of months. I am learning Japanese mainly as a hobby (I have an interest in the culture). I enjoy watching Japanese movies and would like to understand them without having to rely on English subtitles. My ultimate goal would be to travel or live there for a few years at some point in the future.
As I said, I am a beginner and need work in all aspects of the spoken and written language. I am able to dedicate at least 2 evenings a week to private lessons; more if the location is not too far from my home. I am willing to travel out of Jackson for the lessons, but not much farther than 30 or 40 miles. I would prefer something closer.
I would like a teacher whose native language is Japanese, or one who is very fluent in Japanese, and is very fluent in English. I would like homework for practice between each lesson, both in written and spoken Japanese. Please contact me with any information if you think you can aid me in my studies. Thank You.

I have no knowledge of French whatsoever. I am a graduate student in a religious studes program that requires reading knowledge of French as a prerequisite to a Ph.D program.
