I grew up speaking English and Spanish, and at first Farsi, but since my Iranian grandfather died when I was barely five, I have forgotten everything he taught me. I have been taking college-level Japanese for three years and have visited Japan twice, but since it's been a year since I last took any classes, I feel I've fallen back to intermediate level, especially in literacy and more complex grammar. I've been teaching myself Russian and Gaelic, but right now I am looking to take up Chinese and Farsi, because I have many Chinese friends that I would like to be able to speak with in their native languages, and I miss being able to talk to the Iranian part of my family without having someone to translate between some of us.

I have been studying Russian off and on over for the last 6 years, both with private tutalidge and on my own. For the most part, I have studied on my own. I know the alphabet well, however my vocabulary is very limited as is my fluency. I do better reading/writi ng than speaking/list ening.
