My husband, myself, and our 16-year-old daughter have long wanted to learn Japanese. We are high school English and social studiesteache rs, so learning Japanese would be purely for our own interest and enjoyment, though our daughter has the added motivation of wanting to be able to read manga. We would like to learn how to read and write as well as speak. Although we have all had previous language study (Latin, French, and Spanish), none of us has previously studied Japanese per se. Because we all have either full-time jobs or full-time school, we don't have a great deal of extra time to devote to our study of Japanese, perhaps 2-4 hours per week. We would like a teacher who is patient and has a good sense of humor, probably someone more interested in culture and history than business. We would like to travel to Japan or perhaps live there for a while on a educational exchange.
