I am a BEGINNING (as in absolutely no experience) Russian learner. I have taken a few years of French, a semester of Japanese and studied and worked abroad (Mexico) and majored in Spanish. I would like to spend a few hours a week learning Russian as I have a Russian kindergarten student in my class who is very limited in English. My husband and I are also planning to travel to St. Petersburg next fall and I would like to have some conversationa l Russian under my belt. I am looking for a Russian instructor who is willing to work with me to get some conversationa l phrases as well as some survival phrases for my class as well as for travel.

Beginner level Cantonese and I recently started Mandarin as well. We are a family of 4 including 2 young kids(4 and 1 yrs old). We are doing this to help keep our family closer to our daughters' native culture and for the enjoyment. I'm interested in focuses on conversation as well as the written language. I took Spanish one at Kennesaw State last year. I want to learn Spanish because I love the culture. I am planning a trip to Spain next year and would like to be as prepared as possible. I need help in all areas at this point. I would like to spend at least two times a week and at least 6 hours a week studying. I work during the day so nights and weekends are best for me. I have been studying French for 8 years now and have studied in Paris at L'Institut Catholique de Paris, where I am classified as advanced in their international student program. I majored in French in college and just graduated in May. I have been told I am considered fluent, however, I need to practice what I have already learned and I recognize that there is still plenty to learn. I do eventually want to be able to use French in a completely professional environment as well. I would only want to work on French for an hour a week.
I have been studying Mandarin Chinese for two years. I started it in college with the idea of potentially using it in business. I was able to complete the minor in college because it came quickly to me and I studied in China for a month, so I was able to skip the entire second year and take third year. My college professor says I am at a level where I can say anything I want, it is just sometimes awkward. I would say I am between beginner and intermediate. I would like to devote a few hours a week to Chinese, as I have much more to learn. I also want to continue reading and writing simplified characters, and I recognize that knowing traditional is also helpful (I have studied both).
As far as teachers, I would want someone who would be willing to encourage me and listen to my concerns. I know my level very well and I know what I am best at doing. I am a self-motivato r and do not need to be pushed to learn, just encouraged. I also want someone who will correct me regularly with all my mistakes because that is how I learn. I enjoy energetic people and I am serious about my studying.
