I am a beginner with the Hungarian language. I do genealogy and have learned to translate some of the written words. Last year I went to Hungary and did fairly well with the little Hungarian I knew, as we spent 3 week driving the country. We are going back to Hungary, and I would like to be more proficient with my language skills next year.
I want to be able to communicate the basics, as we found outside of Budapest, few people spoke fluent English. We also found that the people were very receptive when I spoke the few phrases I knew.
I do not have an ear for sounds, and so languages are a difficult area for me to learn
