Re:How do you make Onigiri?
Hi,kiyuge, I'm Japanese and I like onigiri very much. You're right. It is dried seaweed. We roll rice ball with seaweed called 'nori'. My favorite foods to put are baked Cod row, tuna and mayo, baked salmon, a small piece of fried chicken, and pickled plum. There are huge number of variation. You can choose your favorite food.It is fun!

Hi Momo Hara, I've read your onigiri reply to Kiyuge and I wanted to know if you know how to make the okonomiyaki batter without buying it at the store. Thanks!

Re:Re:Re:How do you make Onigiri?
Hi,Huong Dang, I'm not good at cooking Okonomiyaki. Actually, I preffer to go Okonomiyaki restaurant rather than cook it. But I know basic recipi *ingredient 1)Okonomiyaki powder(if you cant find it, you can make base paste . Mix flour 60g,water 60cc, and a pinch of salt.) 2)cabbage 150g (shred) 3)egg 1 4)something you want to mix(cut it small pieces and mix) for example, meat, spuid , shrimp, shellfish, leak, corn, potato, and so on. in japan, sliced pork is very popular. I like to mix pieces of cheese or rice cake. 5) topping (we useally put worceter sause, mayonnaise, green laver, and a piece of dried bonito)
You can choose anything you like because the name of [okonomi] means [like].
*How to cook 1) Mix 1)-4)ingrediants. 2) heat up oil on hot plate. 3) Cook the mixed ingrediants on heated hot plate for 1-2 minutes. 4) When the underside is set, turn over and cook the other side. 5) Transfer the Okonomiyaki to a plate and add topping.
There are largr number of variety. I like Korean dish named chijimi(?). It's similar to Okonomiyaki and deliciaus. It's served with Chili sauce. But I dont know how to cook it. I like fresh spring roll. Do you cook it?

Re:Re:Re:Re:How do you make Onigiri?
Hi Momo Hana, Thank you for the Okonomiyaki recipe! I'm sorry for not responding in a while since I've been busy with school. To make Spring Rolls, you just need: -a pack of rice paper (you can get these any Asian market, preferably a Vietnamese store). They come in squares or circles. -fillings: (a) meat - sliced marinated beef, boiled shrimp, boil pork, or char siu (chinese bar-b-que pork) (b) cucumbers (sliced lengthwise); herbs (such as spearmint, cilantro,...in Vietnamese we call it 'rau thom', which literally means 'scented plant', but I don't know the English translations of the herbs) (c) noodles (I normally use pho noodles, which are thin, white noodles, but you can use any thin noodles. Don't use any spaghetti noodles or other thick noodles)
**Separate each filling in its individual bowl or plate for easy access**
These are the main ingredients that are normally put in spring rolls. To make them, you first wet a sheet of rice paper (place hot/warm water in a bowl or plate and completely dip the paper until it's wet and then place it on a clean plate). The paper should become limp after a couple of minutes. Afterwards, you can place your fillings on one of the CORNERS (if you have a square rice paper) or SIDE (if you have a circle rice paper). However, put only a small amount of each filling (meat, noodles, cucumbers, herbs) because your paper might break when you roll it. If you buy a large size rice paper, you can put more fillings in but it's up to you to experiment :) After placing your fillings on your rice paper, roll your spring roll halfway and tuck in the outer corners (left and right) into the middle. (It'll cover the edges of your spring roll to prevent your fillings from falling out) You can then finish rolling completely afterwards.
For the sauce, use Hoisin Sauce. Since it's thick, you want to add some water in it and heat it on the stove. You don't want to add too much water, just enough to make the hoisin sauce run from a spoon. You can also add crushed peanuts in the sauce.
It might take some practice and there's different ways to roll a spring roll. You can also have spring rolls with open edges (just tuck the sides in before placing your fillings). I hope this helps you and I'm sorry about responding so late.

Hajimemashite!
I made ONIGIRI two days ago. It was my first time. It was really interesting experimenting with different fillings. One of them fell apart but it still tasted really yummy!
Now I am hungry. I think I am going to make some more! *hehe*
