I want to make friends who are from English-speaking countries.
Hi, I am Akiko from Japan. I just joined here a couple of weeks ago, but It's hard to make friends soon because I am a regular member. That's why I'm writing in here. I am looking for female friends (especially from the States, Australia, Canada, England)who can help me improve my speaking skill in English. I found out it's even harder to master speaking without someone to talk to. Don't you think so?? Well of course I can help you improve your Japanese if you want me to!and I can tell you everything about Japan and its culture. I have skype, we can chat there. Drop me a line if you are interested!

Re:I want to make friends who are from English-speaking countries.
Hello there. Firstly, I'm not a female but am a 22 year old male. I was born here in Hong Kong but I went to Canada when I was young and grew up in an English-speaking environment. However, I also speak Cantonese and Mandarin fluently and I've started taking classes in Japanese and Korean recently, due to just having found my interest in language after having studied two years of engineering in Canada. Anyway, I'd really like to know more about Japan in addition to what I'm learning in class and in exchange, I can help you on improving your spoken English, if you don't mind that I'm a male... :\

Re:Re:I want to make friends who are from English-speaking countries.
Hi, thank you very much for your message and offering your help me with my speaking! I thought no one would notice my message lol You are lucky to have been born in an English-speaking environment! No problem, I don't care if you are a male or not. Well some guys ask me for relationshop and stuff, that's why I wrote that females are preferable. So don't worry. Oh are you taking Japanese class? Good, I will help you with that and tell you anything about Japan if you want me to. By the way, are you a gold member? As for myself, I'm not. So I can't send you a message so that I can tell you my address or something. Can you send me a message if you are a gold member?? If you aren't..I wonder what we should do..Do you have any ideas?

Re:Re:Re:I want to make friends who are from English-speaking countries.
Hello there! Firstly, I must say that I also feel lucky, to be able to find someone who's Japanese and wants to improve on their English on a 'free' online bulletin. In fact, I've been searching for other websites too, that could allow me to meet some Japanese people because after about 4 months of studying the language, I really felt I should start using what I've learnt and try applying it to real life. I think I already seem to be quite enthusiastic about learning in class, like I'd try answering questions frequently, and even tried to initiate some conversation with the teacher at times after class. But the thing is, my teacher is native Japanese and does not really know a lot of English, Mandarin or Cantonese so he can only really teach with a limited set of vocabulary to a Cantonese audience. So after all, it's quite hard to get to know him better because I've tried talking to him in English but he just seemed not very comfortable with it so I asked him things in Japanese such as 'where do you live?', 'how long have you been in Hong Kong?', 'where is your family right now?', etc, lol. But no matter what, I think I still like this teacher very much because I think he's very nice and well-mannered, like he'd still treat other students in the class with equality even when they seem to have not much motivation... Btw, it's actually a class with no required qualifications at all so anyone interested in learning Japanese can apply for it. At the moment, there's six including me in the class and we just had the first test last week that'd take us to the next level if we pass. But I still worry whether those people would want to continue learning because they just seemed not so enthusiastic in class... If that's the case, the next level class would be cancelled due to a shortage of students. As a result, I might need to apply for private lessons again, which is what I started with because all the group lessons already started at that moment back then... and it's a lot more expensive, even more than a private English lesson I'd say. However, if I think I'm 'that' interested in learning Japanese, I'd still go for the private lessons. :) Anyway, I've been talking about my stuff quite much and still haven't told you whether I'm a gold member or not. And the answer is, unfortunately... no. I already read and studied the 'guidelines' quite meticulously and it seems that it wants us to pay after all. But if we really want to know each other, then I guess the money would be worth it. So, can you tell me more about yourself? :)

Re:Re:Re:Re:I want to make friends who are from English-speaking countries.
Hi, I see how you are enthusiastic about learning Japanese by reading your message. I went to language school to study English, As a whole, the students there were very hard-working so I got much more motivated because of them. That was really good for me. And all the lessons really helped me and the teachers were excellent. Well I think my level of speaking was improved but I had to quit coz of financial problems. After that I've been studying on my own, but you know, learning speaking without someone to talk to was very difficult, that's why I was looking for someone who can help me improve my skill. I think my speaking isn't so bad coz I learned in the upper class at language school but I'm not sure about that now that I lost opportunities to speak English lol I have not stopped studying though... Can you be my friend and help me improve my speaking? I will help you improve your Japanese if you want me to of course.
About myself? I'm studying to be an assistant of the dentist while I'm working. What about you? What do you do?

Re:Re:Re:Re:Re:I want to make friends who are from English-speaking countries.
Hi there! Well, I'm currently still waiting to get back into university this year so in the meantime, I've been taking different language lessons hoping they'll prepare me better to meet different kinds/ethics of people when I get in. Alright, so I see that you're also quite enthusiastic about learning English and I guess going to a language school (in Japan?) to study English must have been costly. It's the same thing here in Hong Kong while trying to master a foreign language like English or Japanese, and sometimes Japanese lessons could cost even more than English lessons. In addition, it's relatively difficult to find bilingual tutors (both Eng and Jap) who can explain things better to you or allow you to have a casual conversation with them in your native language. Though I've been describing myself as if I really want to speed up my learning, I think it's just that I like being active as a person and take opportunities that I get. Because I know that you shouldn't really speed up your learning so much while learning a new language or else you might forget things easily after memorizing lots of things within a short period of time. So no matter how many phrases I know or kanji that I already know from Chinese, I still feel I need to spend more time in practicing the intonation of various Japanese phrases or sentences, even down to something as simple as saying 'konnichiwa' or 'o-genki desu ka?' That's why I didn't mind trying out the group lessons held only once per week even if I really thought I could be more enthusiastic about learning than other people in the class. Besides, I was still new to the language and wasn't sure if I should really invest in it yet.
So, I think we both feel the same about learning a foreign language because I also found out that aside from studying from textbooks, I¡¦d still need to get used to how Japanese people talk and what they¡¦re interested in, etc. And sure, I can be your friend and help you out on speaking English if you can be mine! ƒº However, we still have the problem of contacting each other for now¡K

Hi, so sorry I missed your message. I'm sorry. Well thank you very much for offering your help with my English, but I've already had enough so I think I don't need any more. You don't have to care about me. But I really appreciate your offer. Thank you very much again.
