Re:Re:HI ! Would you teach English?
Hi! Here is a tip for a self introduction phrase. Instead of "namae wa Laura desu" ("the name is Laura") you say "私の名前はローラです。" or simply "私はローラです。" ("My name is Laura" or in the simple version: "I'm Laura "). In "kana" (Japanese syllabary; 仮名; かな) it will look like this: "わたしのなまえはローラです。" or in the simple version: "わたしはローラです。". In "romaji" (Latin alphabet; ローマ字; ローマじ; "rōmaji" is orginal pronunciation, but this word really often is in its english form, because of that I use it) it will look like this: "Watashi no namae wa rōra desu." or in the simple version: "Watashi wa rōra desu." It was a "romaji" version that corresponds to the Japanese pronunciation; a "romaji" variant that will represent the Japanese spelling in "kana" will be (pronounced as before): "Watashi no namae ha roora desu." or in the simple version: "Watashi ha roora desu." Be careful - in the second (Japanese writing) version the word "roora" is indistinguishable and can be misunderstood as another women's name - "Loora" ("ローラ" is "Laura" and "ロオラ" is "Loora", but in "romaji", when it is In Japanese writing form, they are both "roora", given that "romaji" do not use "katakana" lengthening marks). In the first (Japanese pronunciation) version of "romaji", "rōra" is "Laura" and "roora" is "Loora", so if you write in "romaji" use this version (whichever version is official, in practice reading Japanese translations you'll often see both of these versions, as well as English, which doesn't use Japanese long characters at all, so better not to use English for Japanese words). Oh, and yet: here is one less common variant for the word "Laura" and it is "raura" (sounds more alike; in "kana" it is written "ラウラ"). The fact is that the word "rōra" ("ローラ") can be confused with the word "roller" (which is in English), which is usually "rōrā" ("ローラー"), but less often "rōra" ("ロオラ"), which coincides. Therefore, I recommend using this rarer and more original-sounding version. Oh yes, your name changes because the Japanese does not normally use the sound "L", so it is replaced by "R", and there may be other changes for foreign words.
Ah, sorry for being too long - it's not easy to include all the variants and explanations in a short text. I'm also sorry about my English - I'm still learning it.
