I need help with a difficult expression
Hey everyone!
I just came across this expression in English: "to out-Rome Rome". Anyone knows what it could mean? Unfortunately I don't have a context for it.

Hello, is this expression in UK English or American English? I dont know if this is the same type of expression, but in the US there is an expression "When in Rome, do as the Roman's do". It just means that you assimilate when entering a new enviroment (culturally), instead of the new environment assimilating to your ways.

Hello, and thanks for answering! If I remember correctly it was a UK English expression, but I don't think it has the same meaning of "When in Rome...". I also tried to look it up on the internet but there were very few results...Maybe it's just an old expression that is not used anymore...
